Bravery [brav·ery |ˈbrāv-rē]: the quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty (Merriam-Webster)

The other day, I was mere millimeters from pressing the send button on a message to a girl I didn’t know. She had posted a dating profile to a Facebook group and I thought she was cute, funny, genuine, down-to-Earth, and all the other things I could hope for. I had the perfect message too — it was short, funny, and playful. I know why I didn’t end up sending that message after hours of deliberation, but I still think about what life could look like if I did.

Part of the reason I didn’t was because then I might as well confess to the girl I loved for three years. I imagined telling her on the last day we had together, right after graduation before we actually left campus for the last time. It would’ve been perfect. That day, we went on an adventure exploring the secret places on campus we’ve always been too busy to care about. We jumped the baseball field fence and we lay in the center of it all, the grass portion of course, and just watched the clouds sail by. I could’ve done it then. Just turned my head to look at her and said, “I love you.”
